Southern Africa Overlanding Storage ("SAOS", "we", "us", or "our") is a vehicle storage and support service based in Johannesburg, South Africa, located 28 km from O.R. Tambo International Airport. We provide secure storage, airport transfers, vehicle maintenance, licensing assistance, and related services to overlanders and adventure travellers.

We are committed to protecting your personal information and handling it responsibly. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we use and protect it — in plain language, without legal jargon where possible.

We do not collect sensitive personal information such as identity numbers, biometric data, or health information.

To manage your booking and storage agreement
To coordinate airport pickups and drop-offs where requested
To send monthly vehicle check reports and condition updates

We do not use your information for unsolicited marketing, and we do not sell your data to third parties.

Who we share your information with

Licensing authorities — if you request licensing or roadworthy assistance, we submit the required documentation to the relevant South African authorities on your behalf
Shipping and logistics agents — if we coordinate vehicle collection from a port or shipping agent

All third parties we work with are trusted partners operating under their own privacy obligations. We do not share your information beyond what is necessary to deliver the service you have requested.

How long we keep your information

We retain your personal information for as long as your storage agreement is active and for a reasonable period thereafter, to resolve any disputes, comply with legal and tax record-keeping requirements, and re-establish contact if you return for future storage.

You may request deletion of your information at any time by contacting us at info@saos.co.za. We will action your request within a reasonable timeframe, subject to any legal obligations that require us to retain certain records.

Cookies and website analytics

Our website uses cookies and third-party analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use the site. This data is aggregated and anonymised — it is not linked to your identity or used to track you across other websites.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not affect your ability to use our services or submit an enquiry.

Your rights under POPIA

As a data subject under South African law, you have the right to:

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Communication with our team via WhatsApp and email is conducted over encrypted channels. We do not store payment card details.

International clients

Many of our clients are based outside South Africa. By submitting an enquiry or entering into a storage agreement with us, you consent to your personal information being held and processed in South Africa under POPIA. We do not transfer your data outside of South Africa except as necessary to communicate with you via standard email and messaging platforms.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects when it was last revised. Continued use of our services following any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
